The excellent Information Is Beautiful website has produced a powerful infographic showing the World’s Biggest Data Breaches & Hacks.
Updated to this month, it neatly displays the size, owner and even the causes of the biggest data breaches and leaks.
Of course, this list is not exhaustive and concerns only the major reported breaches.
In reality there have been many more, albeit some at smaller scale, but all of them costly and frustrating for individuals and damaging to organisations. In most cases, better information governance would have mitigated or prevented the issue and could have helped to protect reputations and customer confidence.
